ISO 1716 Daily Maintenance and Accuracy Assurance Tips for Building‑Material Combustion Calorimeter

The building‑material combustion calorimeter is a high‑precision metrological testing instrument. Its stability and test accuracy directly determine the validity of building‑material quality inspection results. Standard routine operation and regular maintenance are critical to extending service life, ensuring stable and accurate test data, and preventing test failures. They also constitute core priorities of equipment management for enterprises and testing institutions.

Basic daily maintenance focuses on environmental control and equipment cleaning. The instrument shall be placed in a constant‑temperature laboratory that is dry, well‑ventilated, dust‑free and free of corrosive gases. Direct sunlight and sharp temperature fluctuations shall be avoided to prevent impairment of temperature‑control precision. Upon completion of each test, combustion residues and dust inside the oxygen bomb shall be cleared promptly. The inner wall of the oxygen bomb, electrodes and crucible shall be wiped to prevent residue buildup that would impair combustion performance and measurement accuracy. In addition, regular inspections shall be performed on oxygen‑bomb sealing rings, inflation valves and connecting pipelines to detect air leakage and component aging. This prevents leakage hazards during high‑pressure tests and guarantees operational safety.

Accuracy assurance relies on regular calibration and parameter verification. Calibration tests using standard benzoic acid samples shall be carried out monthly to verify the heat‑capacity parameter of the instrument and correct systematic errors in a timely manner. The temperature‑control system and sensitivity of temperature sensors shall be checked quarterly to guarantee accurate water‑temperature acquisition. For instruments after long‑term shutdown, preheating, water‑filling calibration and blank combustion tests shall be completed before restarting to eliminate potential faults. Meanwhile, operating procedures must be strictly followed: sample weighing shall be precise, oxygen‑charging pressure shall comply with specifications, and ambient test temperature shall be well‑controlled to eliminate human‑induced operational errors. Routine maintenance and calibration enable long‑term stable equipment operation, ensure all test datasets meet national standard requirements, and deliver reliable support for fire‑safety testing of building materials.
